Q: When is the best time to visit Sumatra?

A: Typically, the rainy season in Sumatra is from November to March, and the dry season is from April to October. However, the weather in this rainforest can be unpredictable. It might rain for a whole week in August, or you could experience several dry days in December. In general, you should always expect some rain (the jungle needs it!) and dress appropriately. With the right preparation, you will be fine and can enjoy your visit year-round.

Q: How do I get to Bukit Lawang?

A: The closest airport to Bukit Lawang is Medan Airport (KNO), which is about 4 hours away. While there is a public bus available, we do not recommend it due to the driving style, which can be quite dangerous, and occasional accidents. If you are still interested in using the public bus, feel free to ask us for more details.

The best way to get to Bukit Lawang is by private car or taxi, which we can organize for you. This option ensures a safer and more comfortable journey. Here you can find more information about our airport transfer service:

Q: How much do the jungle treks cost and what is included?

A: For detailed information on costs and what’s included, please visit our jungle treks section.

Q: Will I be seeing Orangutans during the jungle trek?

A: While we cannot guarantee a 100% chance of seeing Orangutans during the jungle trek, as it takes place in the wilderness of Gunung Leuser National Park and nature cannot be controlled, our experience shows that sightings are highly likely. There is a high chance of seeing them, whether you choose a half-day trek or a longer adventure. The jungle is their natural habitat, and most of our visitors are fortunate enough to encounter these incredible creatures.

Q: Are the jungle treks eco-friendly?

A: Yes, our jungle treks are eco-friendly. We are committed to preserving the natural habitat of the Orangutans and other wildlife in Gunung Leuser National Park. Our guides follow strict guidelines: Orangutans cannot be fed, and no trash is left behind. We take pride in our values and dedication to responsible tourism. For more information, please check out our values section.

Q: What do I need to bring for the jungle trek?

A: To ensure a safe and enjoyable jungle trek, please check our comprehensive packlist in the button below. It includes all the essentials you need, such as appropriate clothing, footwear, and other necessary items. Preparing well will help you make the most of your adventure in Gunung Leuser National Park.

Q: How fit do I need to be and can children join the jungle treks?

A: A moderate level of fitness is recommended due to the hilly terrain and potential muddy conditions. For those who may not be as fit, we suggest shorter treks and can also find alternative, easier routes. Families and children are very welcome. Kids need to be at least 5 years old to join an overnight trek. If they are younger, parents can carry them on a half-day or one-day trek.

Q: Do I have to pay in advance?

A: No, you don’t need to make a full payment in advance. However, we do require a 25% deposit to secure your booking. The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon arrival. For more information check our payment and deposit policy.

Q: Do I need to book in advance?

A: To secure a jungle trek on your preferred dates, we recommend booking in advance. However, if you are already in Bukit Lawang, you can still contact us and we will do our best to organize everything for you on short notice.

Q: Are there any ATMs in Bukit Lawang?

A: In Bukit Lawang, there is only one ATM, and it mostly works for Indonesian credit cards only. About 10 km outside of Bukit Lawang, in the small town of Bohorok, there are two ATMs that usually work. However, they sometimes reject cards or run out of cash. We recommend bringing enough cash from the ATMs at Medan Airport to avoid any inconvenience.

Q: I am a solo-traveler, but the group size is a minimum of 2 people. Can I still book with you?

A: Absolutely! We understand that solo-travelers may face challenges with group size requirements. We can try to find a group for you to join. However, if there are no available groups, you have the option to book as a single traveler. In this case, you will need to pay for two people, but you will receive a private trek. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility.
