Visa in Indonesia as a Foreigner

If you’re planning a trip to Indonesia for tourism, you’ll need to obtain a tourist visa. Indonesia offers different options depending on the length and nature of your stay. These options cater to both short and extended visits, ensuring flexibility and convenience for travelers. It’s essential to understand the specific requirements and procedures for each type of tourist visa to ensure a smooth entry and a hassle-free experience. Whether you choose to obtain your visa upon arrival or apply in advance, being well-informed will help you enjoy a memorable visit to this vibrant and diverse country.

Visa on Arrival (VOA)

If you need more flexibility or plan to stay longer, you can opt for a Visa on Arrival (VOA). This visa is available to citizens of 169 countries and allows a stay of up to 30 days, extendable once for an additional 30 days, providing a total of 60 days in Indonesia. The fee for the VOA is $35 USD, payable upon arrival at selected international airports (e.g., Medan Airport – KNO) and seaports in Indonesia. Make sure to have cash on hand to pay this fee. Additionally, you will need necessary documents such as a valid passport and a return or onward ticket. This knowledge will help ensure a smooth entry and an enjoyable visit to this vibrant and diverse country. You can also apply for the VOA online, which is convenient as you receive it upon arrival and can extend it (if desired) online without needing to visit the immigration office separately. Please beware of scam websites and visa agencies that may attempt to take advantage of you financially.

Tourist Visa (B211A)

For those planning to stay longer or who do not qualify for visa exemption or VOA, the B211A Tourist Visa is an excellent option. This visa must be obtained before arrival in Indonesia and allows for a stay of up to 60 days. It can also be extended up to 2 times, with each extension allowing an additional 60 days for each extension, providing a potential total stay of 180 days. To apply, you’ll need to visit an Indonesian embassy or consulate and submit the required documents, including a completed application form, passport-sized photos, a valid passport, proof of sufficient funds, a return or onward ticket, and any other documents requested by the consulate. This visa also requires a local Indonesian Sponsor. There are several agencies online that offer to sponsor your B211A Visa.

E-Visa

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia introduced an electronic visa (e-Visa) system to simplify the application process. Travelers can apply for the B211A Tourist Visa and the VOA online, making it more convenient to obtain a visa without visiting an embassy or consulate. The e-Visa application process involves submitting your documents electronically and, once approved, receiving your visa via email. This system aims to streamline the visa process and promote safe travel.

  • Document Preparation: Ensure all your documents are in order, including passport validity, return or onward tickets, and possibly proof of sufficient funds.
  • Stay Informed: Keep up with any travel advisories or entry requirements related to health and safety, especially in light of ongoing global health concerns.
