About us
Our Team
We are Dion and Nuria – an intercultural couple that always seeks out adventure and enjoys spending time in nature! Dion is the founder and main guide of Fair Jungle Tours – Sumatra, with many years of experience leading jungle treks with guests from all over the world in the astonishing Gunung Leuser National Park. He is a local, born and raised in Bukit Lawang, and has been living in sync with nature since he can remember. Nuria first visited Sumatra in 2018 and instantly fell in love with the sparkling rivers, the sound of gibbons during sunrise, and the delicious Indonesian food available in every corner. She is Spanish and German and assists whenever adventure-seekers reach out to us – in English, Spanish, German, or Indonesian.
Our treks and tours are guided by professional and experienced locals, all certified by the HPI (Indonesian Tourist Guide Association). Although each guide has a unique character, they share a deep love and respect for every living being, from the smallest ant to the largest elephant. Their knowledge of the jungle has grown over the years, and they enthusiastically share it with everyone interested, from children to teenagers to elders, in fluent English or Indonesian (and with gestures, if a guest can’t speak English, as flexibilty is a core aspect of the Indonesian mentality). Our guides are excited to welcome new adventurers, creating unforgettable memories and sometimes even lifelong friendships. Additionally, our team of assistant guides, jungle cooks, and drivers ensures that you feel as comfortable and safe as possible every step of the way.
Our Values
Environmental Stewardship
At the heart of our jungle treks is a steadfast commitment to eco-friendliness. We prioritize leaving no trace, ensuring that no waste is left behind in the jungle. Our approach respects the natural habitat, recognizing that feeding animals can make them ill due to exposure to human bacteria. We emphasize that humans are mere visitors in this pristine environment, and our goal is to leave it exactly as we found it, preserving its untouched beauty for future generations. This principle guides all our actions, from careful planning to conscientious execution, ensuring that our presence does not disrupt the delicate balance of the ecosystem. We are dedicated to promoting awareness and education about environmental conservation among our guests, encouraging them to embrace sustainable practices in their own lives.
Employee Welfare
In a region where wages are often low, we stand out by ensuring fair and timely compensation for all our employees. From our knowledgeable guides and diligent drivers to our skilled cooks and support staff, everyone is paid fairly and punctually. We believe that our team’s dedication and hard work deserve to be rewarded justly, reflecting our commitment to their well-being and job satisfaction. Beyond financial compensation, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive work environment where every team member feels valued and respected. We invest in their professional development and provide opportunities for growth, recognizing that our employees are the backbone of our operation. Their passion and expertise are what make our treks exceptional, and we are committed to their continuous empowerment and success.
