About us

Bukit Lawang Jungle Trekking with Local Guides – Fair Jungle Tours Sumatra

We are Dion and Nuria – an intercultural couple who love nature, adventure, and authentic travel. Dion is the founder and lead jungle guide of Fair Jungle Tours – Sumatra, based in the rainforest village of Bukit Lawang. He was born and raised here and has lived in harmony with the jungle since childhood.

Dion has many years of experience guiding treks in Gunung Leuser National Park. He has welcomed travelers from all over the world and helped them explore the beauty of the jungle. Nuria, who is Spanish and German, first visited Sumatra in 2018. She immediately fell in love with the sparkling rivers, the calls of gibbons at sunrise, and the rich Indonesian food.

Today, she helps organize tours in English, German, Spanish, and Indonesian. Together, we support our guests every step of the way.

At Fair Jungle Tours Sumatra, all treks are led by professional local guides, certified by the HPI (Indonesian Tourist Guide Association). Each guide has a unique personality. However, they all share a deep love for nature and a strong respect for every living creature – from ants to orangutans.

In addition, our tours are flexible and suitable for all ages. Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, with kids, or with older family members – we adapt to your needs. Our guides speak fluent English and Indonesian. And if needed, they also use gestures, because being flexible is part of the Indonesian spirit.

Behind the scenes, our team of assistant guides, jungle cooks, and drivers work hard to keep you safe and comfortable. As a result, you can fully enjoy the experience. Whether you choose a short trek or a multi-day adventure, we aim to create real connections, unforgettable memories, and sometimes even lifelong friendships.

Our Values

Environmental Stewardship

At the heart of our jungle treks is a steadfast commitment to eco-friendliness. We prioritize leaving no trace, ensuring that no waste is left behind in the jungle. Our approach respects the natural habitat, recognizing that feeding animals can make them ill due to exposure to human bacteria. We emphasize that humans are mere visitors in this pristine environment, and our goal is to leave it exactly as we found it, preserving its untouched beauty for future generations. This principle guides all our actions, from careful planning to conscientious execution, ensuring that our presence does not disrupt the delicate balance of the ecosystem. We are dedicated to promoting awareness and education about environmental conservation among our guests, encouraging them to embrace sustainable practices in their own lives.

Employee Welfare

In a region where wages are often low, we stand out by ensuring fair and timely compensation for all our employees. From our knowledgeable guides and diligent drivers to our skilled cooks and support staff, everyone is paid fairly and punctually. We believe that our team’s dedication and hard work deserve to be rewarded justly, reflecting our commitment to their well-being and job satisfaction. Beyond financial compensation, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive work environment where every team member feels valued and respected. We invest in their professional development and provide opportunities for growth, recognizing that our employees are the backbone of our operation. Their passion and expertise are what make our treks exceptional, and we are committed to their continuous empowerment and success.
